What's new in 0.1.5
Sep 13, 2026## New
- Keel: Caspian's own engine build. Pages run at the display's refresh rate — 120 fps scrolling and animation on ProMotion and high-refresh monitors, where the stock engine was pinned to 60 — with H.264 / AAC / HEVC built in on every platform and the Hunspell spellchecker everywhere.
## Fixed
- Arrow, Home/End, Page Up/Down, Insert and Delete keys from a physical keyboard reached pages with the numpad's `event.code` (ArrowUp arrived as "Numpad8"), so sites that check `event.code` — game controls, keyboard shortcuts, easter eggs — never saw them. They now report the same codes as Chrome; the numpad still reports as the numpad.
- Google Search crashed the page while signed in (a blank tab that ignored the keyboard, sometimes with a stray "doesn't support a secure connection" bar). Google serves browsers it doesn't recognise a page variant that crashes this engine; Caspian now presents exactly as Chrome, as Brave and Vivaldi do. Caspian's own services still know it's Caspian.
- A page whose process dies shows "This page crashed" with Try again, instead of a blank tab.
- macOS: page thumbnails come from the web view's framebuffer, so there is no half-second stall after every load and tab switch; the ⋮ menu opens in the right place the first time.
Release channels
Caspian checks its channel every few hours and installs updates in the background. Switch channels from caspian:about.
Windows
Run the installer. It sets up per-user, offers to become the default browser, and updates itself from then on.
macOS
Open the .dmg and drag Caspian to Applications. Caspian offers to become the default browser on first run and updates itself from then on.
Linux
Make the AppImage executable and run it. It works on any current distro with no packages to install.
